Dr. Mary Ashun

Dr. Mary Ashun is a distinguished educator with over three decades of experience in North America and Africa, currently serving as the CEO of Ghana International School. A transformational leader, she is dedicated to educational innovation and quality improvement. Her career includes roles as a School Principal in Canada and teaching at Redeemer University (Ontario).

Dr. Ashun holds a BSc from the University of East London, a B.Ed. from the University of Toronto, and a PhD in Biochemistry from SUNY Buffalo. She is also a Klingenstein Fellow of Columbia University. Her influence extends through her service on the inaugural council of ASICS in Ghana and as a former board member of the Association of International Schools in Africa. She currently chairs the Advisory Board of Young Africa Works, Mastercard Foundation’s youth unemployment strategy.

Beyond her educational leadership, Dr. Ashun is a prolific author with 13 novels and short stories, and she has written 3 musicals. In 2022, she executive-produced a student production of Nobel Laureate Wole Soyinka’s “Death and The King’s Horseman.” Dr. Ashun is married with three adult sons.
